John Thistlethwaite

In Affectionate Remembrance of
John
The beloved son of Thomas and Betty Thistlethwaite
of Burnley.
Who departed this life October 30th 1886
Aged 16 months
And was interred at Haggate Chapel, November 2nd.

The following poem is on the inside cover of this card:-

Beautiful child, art thou sleeping
Ne'er to unclose those beaming eyes,
Deaf to the voice of a mother's weeping
All unmoved by a father's sighs?

Mother! lov'd mother, I am not sleeping,
Father, look up to the soft blue sky;
Where glittering stars bright watch are keeping
Singing and shining there am I.

He bloomed in our cottage a while,
He gladdened our hearts with his love,
But Jesus has taken our flower
To bloom in His garden above
